August film roundup

Heatwaves, fashion and oh how time flies!

Summer is most definitely in full swing and, while the recent rain has been very welcome, we’re still looking forward to enjoying plenty of warm, sunny days. What better tonic than escaping into the cool darkness of a screening room or settling in for an evening under the stars at an outdoor screening?

If the consistently warm weather has you feeling rather Mediterranean, You, Me and Tuscany could be just the ticket for your audience. Or, if Bollywood is more your style, you’ll find plenty to enjoy in our selection below.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is now available to book, serving up the perfect blend of nostalgia and contemporary flair for a fun, multi-generational crowd-pleaser.

From fashion to music, James McAvoy’s directorial debut California Schemin’  tells the true story of two spirited young wannabe rappers who refuse to let a biased music industry dampen their ambition. We also have Power Ballad starring Paul Rudd as a hapless, oversharing wedding band musician whose dreams of musical glory are yet to fade.

And finally, let’s travel back 40 years to Jeff Goldblum’s brilliant breakthrough leading man performance in David Cronenberg’s The Fly. Ah, those halcyon days when the prospect of future teleportation issues were the biggest thing anyone had to worry about.

The Fly

Jeff Goldblum is Seth Brundle, a brilliant but eccentric scientist who attempts to woo investigative journalist Veronica Quaife (Geena Davis) by offering her a scoop on his latest research in the field of matter transportation, which against all the expectations of the scientific establishment have proved successful.

Up to a point. Brundle thinks he has ironed out the last problem when he successfully transports a living creature, but when he attempts to teleport himself a fly enters one of the transmission booths, and Brundle finds he is a changed man.
